Integrated Interventional Radiology Program

Welcome! Baptist Memorial Hospital in conjunction with MidSouth Imaging (MSIT)/ Vascular Interventional Physicians (VIP) was recently approved for an Advanced Integrated Interventional Radiology Residency starting July 2025.

For basic details regarding site rotations and diagnostic radiology training, please refer to the diagnostic radiology residency website.

Our Interventional Radiology program is based out of the Memphis/Southaven metro and offers the full spectrum of procedural and clinical training in Interventional Radiology. Unique features of our training program include a strong outpatient presence through our office-based labs (OBL). These are physician owned and physician run entities with an exceptionally strong presence in the fields of peripheral vascular disease, oncological intervention, venous disease, prostate embolization, pain management, and hemorrhoid treatment.  IR residents will spend the end portion of their training (PGY-5, PGY-6) in these OBL’s where they will learn more advanced vascular interventions as well as the basics of practice building such as marketing/developing of different service lines and the basics of starting/financing an outpatient private practice facility.

Our inpatient training is based primarily out of the Baptist-Memphis and Baptist-Desoto hospitals and include case volumes expected from a large tertiary/quaternary referral center such as the management and treatment of venous thromboembolic disease, hepatobiliary interventions, vascular emergencies, portal hypertension, and sepsis.

We have a robust clinical presence in the inpatient and outpatient setting including nurse practitioner (NP) run rounding services at both hospitals and physician run clinics at both of our outpatient facilities Monday through Friday.

Program Handbook

Applicants can apply to our program through ERAS with 1 spot filled through the NRMP Match each year (5 total positions). Matched applicants to the Integrated Interventional Radiology program have a guaranteed Transitional Year spot at the Baptist DeSoto program, if wanted.

We strongly recommend a General Surgery internship prior to beginning our advanced program. Strong clinical acumen is expected from all residents by the starting of their PGY-2 year with us and there is no better training for periprocedural patient management than under the direction of surgeons.

We will be conducting exclusively onsite, in-person interviews for the 2025-2026 application cycle. We interview from October through January. Interview days are typically performed on Mondays with a pre-interview dinner the evening before. Hotel stay will be provided the evening before interviews.

Please do not hesitate to contact our program manager, Angela Callens ([email protected]), with any questions.

Thank you for your consideration,

John Braun, MD
