Why did you choose Baptist?
Baptist provides a surplus of volume and autonomy through independent call, both of which are essential in becoming a good private practice radiologist. Plus, we can gain even more experience through generously-compensated moonlighting opportunities.

More importantly though, the vibe of the program was unmatched. After noon conference we grab snacks at Angela's office and hang out until 1:15 which is a nice refresh before starting your afternoon.

What is your day like? Any challenges? What's rewarding about your day?
Most days are 7am-4pm or 8am-5pm. Typically, I wake up around 5:15-5:30am. Exercise 6-7am (unless I'm on a rotation that starts at 7, then I'll exercise from 4:30-5:30pm). Work until 4-5pm. I try to study for about an hour each night. The biggest challenge so far is being unfamiliar with each rotation the first time through, as we get close to zero formal radiology education in medical school. After a few weeks you will see real improvements in knowledge and efficiency which is very rewarding and motivating.

What is your favorite thing about Memphis?
East Memphis has some great restaurants (Andrew Michael is my favorite) and, as a St. Louis Cardinals fan, I enjoy having the AAA-affiliate Redbirds in town. My wife and I live in Collierville which is a family-friendly town with great schools and parks. Shelby Farms also has a coffee shop, off-leash dog park, and plenty of miles of trails.

What made you decide on your career? Was there someone or something in your life that helped you choose your path?
Throughout my third year of medical school, I found that the clinical team was often waiting on the radiology report before making the next clinical decision. The ability to direct the care of a diverse set of patients while being an expert in imaging and anatomy fit my ideal specialty

Why would you recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant?

Tons of volume, generous moonlighting, autonomy, and friendly residents and attendings.
