Why did you choose Baptist?
I enjoyed everyone I worked with when rotating here during medical school and intern year. It's a challenging but supportive working environment that I felt would help me become a great radiologist without sacrificing my health and well-being. Everyone I spoke with was happy they picked Baptist or had great things to say about the program and the path it set them on after completing their training.

What is your day like? Any challenges? What's rewarding about your day?
So far, I've done IR and Mammography. I get in at 8am, work until going to noon conference from 12-1, then usually finish around 5pm. Most of IR was a challenge at first as it had been 2 years since I was in a procedural setting, but it was awesome to start with something hands-on and learn some new skills. For Mammo, learning PACS was the main challenge. After a few weeks however, I feel much more confident with the system, reading, and dictating.

What is your favorite thing about Memphis?
Memphis has a down-to-earth feel to me. I've been here since 2011 and have met a lot of unique, genuine people. There are areas for every type of person so it never feels dull. And there's plenty of soccer to be played, pretty much year round.

What made you decide on your career? Was there someone or something in your life that helped you choose your path?
I enjoyed a few areas of medicine but didn't like the way things were structured. Too often, it felt like I was working on non-clinical tasks or waiting on someone or something else before I could actually help patients. When I'm at work, I like to work. I enjoy helping people, and I prefer a little more independence than what most other fields seem to offer. Plus, the personalities made me feel right at home.

Why would you recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant?
You'll get excellent training and be well-prepared for a career in any field of radiology. The people are great and the program provides a supportive, welcoming environment. Memphis may take a little getting used to but it's a great, affordable place to live and start the next stage of your life.
