Why did you choose Baptist?

I chose Baptist because I knew I would receive a high volume of hands-on training, both in the reading room and in performing procedures. The case volume here is tremendous, which really helps prepare you for private practice. As you advance through the program, there are also great opportunities to moonlight, which was important to me. There is a strong emphasis on board preparation and the staff at Baptist are very knowledgeable, approachable, and truly invested in helping you succeed.

What is your day like?  Any challenges?  What’s rewarding about your day?

I usually start my day around 5 a.m. with a workout and some light studying. My workday begins between 7–8 a.m., depending on the rotation. I spend the morning reading studies or assisting with procedures until noon, when we break for our daily conference. After the lecture, we work for another few hours until the day wraps up around 5 p.m. When I get home, I enjoy spending the evening with my wife, daughter, and our two Dalmatians. One of the biggest challenges in radiology is how much there is to learn. At times, it feels like the first day of medical school all over again, overwhelming but exciting. What’s most rewarding for me is seeing my speed and accuracy improve as I work through more studies.

What is your favorite thing about Memphis?

Memphis offers everything you need without the traffic and congestion of a larger city. We love being close to family, the affordable cost of living, beautiful parks and golf courses, the zoo, and the family-friendly activities available for young kids.

What made you decide on your career? Was there someone or something in your life that helped you choose your path?

I didn't consider radiology until late in my third year of medical school. Two radiologists I met at church during med school were instrumental in helping me explore the field. Once I did my first radiology rotation, I was drawn in by the variety of cases and the opportunity to perform procedures, even as a general radiologist.

Why would you recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant?

Baptist is an excellent program for anyone who’s willing to work hard and eager to learn. The volume and variety of cases are exceptional, and the faculty provide you with enough autonomy to grow into a confident, capable radiologist.
