I liked the overall structure of the program as it combined the benefits of Baptist's hospital system while being able to learn from a large group of radiologist familiar with the demands of private practice. The faculty and residents also seemed like a great group to learn from and work with.
A normal day at the hospital starts at 7 or 8 depending on the rotation. I'm in the reading room until noon picking up studies as they show up on the list. Once I have a handful of studies dictated, I go over them with the attending. This repeats until noon but is sometimes broken up to do procedures like a lumbar puncture or fluoroscopic studies such as an esophagram. Around noon, I get food at either the physician's lounge or cafeteria before heading over to noon conference. After noon conference, its back to the reading room for the remainder of the afternoon.
I've only been here a couple of months, but so far my favorite thing has been the Memphis Zoo. It was ranked #2 in the nation. I have a one year old, and he loved it!
Early in medical school, I asked several physicians which specialty they would choose if not their own, and radiology was by far the most common answer. Later, during my third year, I rotated in both diagnostic and interventional radiology with two outstanding mentors. Through those experiences, I saw firsthand how essential radiology is to modern medicine, and I knew I wanted to be a part of it.
Its a great training environment, there plenty of moonlighting opportunities, the food/drinks/snacks are unbeatable, and the cost of living is very reasonable.
